Men’s Soccer Falls To Jacksonville

The Flyers Were Shutout For The First Time This Season

DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team dropped their first contest of the season with a tough 3-0 loss at home to Jacksonville University Sunday afternoon.

The Flyers (1-1-0) suffered their first loss of the campaign while the Dolphins (1-1-0) picked up their first win.

SCORING BREAKDOWN
  • 17:10 – Jacksonville opened the scoring with a goal in the 18th minute.
  • 29:06 – The Dolphins doubled their lead with a header in the 30th minute, taking a two-goal lead into halftime.
  • 69:13 – The visitors sealed the victory with their third goal in the 70th minute.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Flyers out-shot the Dolphins 25-5 in the contest and put seven on target to the visitors' three, all of which resulted in goals.
  • Graduate student Geni Kanyane, sophomore Cooper Lijewski, senior Ethan Sassine, and junior Joseph Melto Quiah all had five shots each to lead Dayton.
  • There were three cautions, all against the Flyers, including a red card.
  • Fouls were 7-6 in the game in favor of Jacksonville.
  • Dayton benefited from a 12-1 corner kick advantage.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"Coaching as long as I have you've seen this where we outshot them 25-5, but didn't capitalize early on," said head coach Dennis Currier. "I think that was the key to this game, scoring in the first 15 minutes. We had a lot of flurry of chances, but they did a good job of countering us and finishing their chances. They got three goals on us on five shots. Credit to them on getting those goals. You have to know the season is long and we just have to put our heads back and get focused on the next game."

UP NEXT
  • The Flyers will head to Columbus next weekend for games against UNLV and SIUE as part of the Ohio State Wolstein Classic.
