COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's soccer team opened up the Wolstein Classic at Ohio State Thursday night with a big 3-1 victory over UNLV.
The Flyers (2-1-0) get back on the winning track while the Rebels (1-1-0) suffered their first loss of the season.
SCORING BREAKDOWN
- 40:15 – Senior Ethan Sassine slotted home the pass from junior Joseph Melto Quiah just past the defensive line for the opening goal. It was originally called offside, but after review, the goal counted. It was Sassine's second goal of the season and Melto Quiah's first assist.
- 45:45 – In the first minute of the second half, UNLV tied the game up at 1-1 after a quick counterattack from the Rebels.
- 80:06 – Sophomore Miles Bonham headed home the perfectly placed cross from fellow sophomore Cooper Lijewski for his first goal of the season.
- 81:59 - Sophomore Martin Bakken clinched the win for Dayton with his first goal of the season off the assist by Melto Quiah in the 82nd minute.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Flyers out-shot their opponents for the third straight game this season, putting nine of their 18 attempts on target.
- UNLV recorded 11 shots, two on frame.
- There was a red card issued to UNLV in the 61st minute, put UD up a man over the final half hour. There were seven cautions total, four by the Rebels.
- Fouls were 15-8 in favor of the Flyers.
- Sassine and Melto Quiah led UD with four shots each.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"The team rebounded very well against a very organized UNLV squad," said head coach
Dennis Currier. "Overall, I though we did a good job controlling most of the phases of play tonight and were able to finish our chances in crucial moments."

- The Flyers will finish up the Wolstein Classic on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 3 p.m. against SIUE.
