FAIRBORN, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's cross-country team opened its season with a third-place finish at the Mike Baumer Cross Country Classic hosted by Wright State University. Despite being shorthanded, the Flyers put in a collection of strong performances to achieve an impressive result.
Sophomore Olivia Kindbom won the race in 17:41, which is a significant PR for her. She was one of three Flyers to set a new personal record as her teammate Junior Marissa Pritchett finished close behind her in the runner-up position with a time of 17:46. Sophomore Anna Newkirk was the third Flyer across the line in a personal best time of 18:18. Three Flyer freshmen made their collegiate debuts as Kaitlin Skelton, Mia Gill, and Sarah Haunn finished with times of 19:11, 19:33, and 20:01 respectively.
After the race Coach David Dobson said, "Today was a nice opportunity to put the jersey on and compete. I am proud of the way the women competed and this is just the first brick in what this team is building this year."
