Super Sophomores Lead #UDWSOC Over Saint Louis, 2-0

The Win Puts Dayton Alone Atop The A-10 Standings

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – First-half goals from sophomores Laney Smith and Liv Grenda boosted the University of Dayton women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Saint Louis on Thursday night at Hermann Stadium.

The win moves Dayton into sole possession of first place in the Atlantic 10 with 21 points, while improving the Flyers' record to 10-3-2 on the season and 7-0 in the A-10. Saint Louis falls to 11-3-1 on the season and 6-1 in the conference. UD's win snaps SLU's 48-game win streak at Hermann Stadium and is the first home Atlantic 10 loss for the Billikens since 2016.

Dayton's first goal came off the foot of Smith in the 15th minute, as the keeper could not handle the hard and low strike. The goal was Smith's fifth of the season and came thanks to assists from Grenda and Karli Ferguson.

Grenda's goal came less than 10 minutes later, as the sophomore made a beautiful play after a brilliant feed from Olivia Baca to beat the SLU defender and put Dayton ahead 2-0.

Both sides had their chances throughout the course of the rest of the game, but the Flyers' defense stood tall and kept the Billikens off the board. Senior keeper Batoul Reda stopped all eight shots from Saint Louis for her 11th shutout of the season.

UD held a slight edge, 14-12, in total shots, while SLU held the advantage in shots on goal, 8-6.
