DAYTON – After two back-to-back home series, the University of Dayton volleyball team is heading back on the road for a conference series against George Washington.
Dayton's last away match was a three-set win over Duquesne on Sept. 30. Friday night's match will be at 6 p.m. First serve for Saturday will be at 1 p.m.
SAINT LOUIS RECAP
Dayton swept Saint Louis in both matches at home last weekend, continuing the Flyers' undefeated record in the Atlantic 10.
Kamryn Hunt averaged 4.33 kills per set for 26, leading the team in kills. Liana Sarkissian led blocking efforts for the Flyers with seven block assists. Setter Viktoria Wahlgren tallied 63 assists, good for 10.50 assists per set. Karissa Kaminski and Emily Young each tabbed four service aces.
ALL SET
Viktoria Wahlgren was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, receiving her first honors of her career and as a Flyer.
Against the Billikens, she recorded an impressive 63 assists for an average of 10.50 assists per set. The setter also earned five kills, two service aces, 11 digs and six block assists.
LIBERO LEVEL UP
Senior defensive specialist/libero Karissa Kaminski reached 1,500 career digs at the beginning of the second set of Friday's match against Saint Louis.
Averaging 4.25 digs per set, she currently has 1,521 digs. With reaching this milestone, she cements her spot in the Dayton record book. The Howards Grove, Wis. native is now closing in on fourth in career digs, currently held by Paige Vargas with 1,675 digs.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
Overall, seniors Karissa Kaminski and Liana Sarkissian lead the Atlantic 10 in digs per set (4.25) and hitting percentage (.392), respectively.
UD is the leader in three categories against conference teams, including Sarkissian's .445 hitting percentage and Kamryn Hunt's 4.25 kills per set and 4.56 points per set.
A TEAM EFFORT
With the Flyers a little more than halfway through the regular season, the team stands atop the A-10 in two categories overall. Dayton holds first in hitting percentage (.243) and opponent hitting percentage (.173).
Against Atlantic 10 opponents, Dayton leads the conference in hitting percentage (.318), assists per set (13.04), kills per set (14.21), opponent hitting percentage (.130), opponent kills (255), opponent assists (235), opponent blocks per set (1.25), opponent total blocks (30), opponent aces (29) and opponent digs (311).
RPI UPDATE
In the second week of the NCAA's RPI ratings, Dayton has moved from No. 76 to No. 77.
Next in the Atlantic 10 is George Mason who dropped from No. 83 to No. 95. Rounding out the top five in the A-10 are Loyola Chicago at No. 114, George Washington at No. 134 and VCU at No. 165.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
George Washington is 13-6 with a 6-1 conference record and is on a four-game win streak. The Revolutionaries lead the conference with 12.49 assists per set and 13.67 assists per set and 984 team kills.
Cayla Cogan has 214 kills to lead GW. Setter Abby Markworth leads the team with 596 assists. Sydney Hasenfratz is the Revolutionaries' leader in blocks with 58 this season.
LAST MEETING
Dayton swept George Washington in a pair of matches at home last season.
Lexie Almodovar posted a double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs. Karissa Kaminski tallied 11 digs as well, with Emily Young posting three service aces, tying her career-high at the time. Liana Sarkissian also tied a then-career-high with seven blocks.
