Smith’s Goal Lifts #UDWSOC To Road Win At Richmond

The Sophomore’s Fourth Goal Of The Season Came In The 73rd Minuet

RICHMOND, Va. – University of Dayton sophomore forward Laney Smith scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season to give the Flyers a 1-0 road victory over Atlantic 10 foe Richmond on Thursday evening at President's Field at River Road.

The win improves Dayton's record to 7-3-2 on the season and 4-0 in the A-10, while the Spiders fall to 3-6-3 and 0-4 in the conference.

Smith's goal came after the Flyers had been firing a consistent barrage of shots at the Richmond keeper through the first 72 minutes. Senior Jenna Hallbeck burned by the Spiders' defense, centered a pass, and Smith smashed the decisive goal past the keeper

Dayton's defense continues to shine as the Flyers posted their ninth shutout of the season and fourth of Atlantic 10 play in the victory. It marked senior keeper Batoul Reda's 36th career shutout, and was the fifth consecutive clean sheet for the Flyers' defense of Caroline Schork, Bre Mendoza, Ella Raimondi and Kyra Karfonta. Reda stopped both shots she faced.

The final shot total came out in Dayton's favor 20-3 overall and 9-2 in shots on goal. UD also had 11 corners to Richmond's two.
