#UDSB's Opening A-10 Series Against Saint Louis Moved Up Due To Weather

Flyers and Billikens to Play Two Friday, Single Game Saturday

DAYTON - The University of Dayton softball team will open the Atlantic 10 portion of its 2025 schedule at home this weekend with a three-game set against Saint Louis. The series was moved up one day due to forecasted severe weather and the pair will now play two March 14 and a single game March 15. First pitch on Friday is set for 2:05 p.m. at UD Softball Stadium and admission is free.

ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton (9-7, 0-0 A-10) played the second of five games this week yesterday, opening the home portion of its 2025 schedule with an 8-3 win over visiting Stonehill College. Senior Maddie Kapsimalis went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base to lead the Flyer offense. On the season, senior Emma Schutter (.351) has been UD's top offensive threat with 20 hits, 16 runs, four triples (7th NCAA) and seven stolen bases while Kapsimalis (.345) leads three Flyers in double-digit RBI with 11 and has 19 hits and 10 runs scored. In the circle, junior Izzy Kemp (4-2) carries the team's low ERA of 2.81 with 56 strikeouts over 42.1 innings of work. Her 9.3 strikeouts/seven innings ranks 26th in all of DI.

SCOUTING SAINT LOUIS
Saint Louis (9-13, 0-0) played its home opener Tuesday, a 10-1 (5) loss to South Dakota State and was at Western Illinois Wednesday, picking up an 8-5 win. Jane Kaniecki (.319) paces the Billikens' offense with 22 hits to go with her 10 runs scored, 14 RBI and 10 walks while Abby Mallo has knocked in a team-best 20 RBI on the strength of seven home runs. SLU's pitching corps is led by Taylor Hochman (5-3) with a 2.61 ERA and 45 Ks over 64.1 innings pitched.

SERIES STUFF
Saint Louis leads, 29-25
The pair played a total of four times in 2024 with Dayton claiming three wins over Saint Louis. The two last squared off May 11, 2024 in the title game of the Atlantic 10 Championship and the Flyers earned the program's first conference tournament title with a 3-0 win over the Billikens.

RPI RANKINGS
In the NCAA's most recent Rating Percentage Index (RPI) through games on March 12, Dayton ranked 135th according to NCAA.com. Saint Louis came in at 223.

UP NEXT
Dayton is scheduled for two mid-week games next week. The team will be at No. 23/RV Kentucky Tuesday for a single game at the Wildcats' John Cropp Stadium at 6p.m. followed by a match-up against Miami (Ohio) in Oxford Wednesday at 2 p.m. The game at Miami was originally supposed to be played at Dayton on March 5 but was rescheduled due to weather and field conditions at UD Softball Stadium.
