FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Dayton baseball team opened Atlantic 10 action with a dominant 8-2 win over George Mason thanks to fantastic pitching performances from
Chris Peguero and
Bennett LaPalm and timely hitting by the offense on Friday afternoon at Sphuler Field.
Peguero pitched into the eighth inning, limiting the Patriots' dynamic offense to just two runs while scattering seven hits. LaPalm came on in relief in the eighth and finished the contest allowing just one baserunner. Neither pitcher allowed a walk in the contest.
The big offensive blow for the FlyBoys came in the sixth inning, when Dayton loaded the bases and freshman
Rylan Lujo emptied them with a three-run double.
Junior
Dyrenson Wouters homered for the second consecutive game and scored three runs.
UD jumped ahead early with a two-run first, scoring on a wild pitch and sacrifice fly. After Wouters' homer, the Flyers scored on a Patriots' error before Lujo's big blast. Dayton added one more in the seventh when Wouters came home on a wild pitch.
