DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team jumped ahead early with a five-run second and the pitching held the Bryant Bulldogs in check on Friday afternoon, as the FlyBoys took game one of the series 7-1 at Woerner Field at AES Ohio Stadium.

Starter
Chris Peguero set the tone with a pair of strikeouts in the first inning, and the offensive action picked up in the second.
Mason Dobie and
Adin Zorn kicked things off with back-to-back singles before a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch drawn by
Martin Howell brought in the Flyers' first run. A pitching error and a sacrifice fly added two more, followed by RBI singles from
Michael DiMartini and
Ryan MacDougall to cap off the five-run frame.Â

Both teams sat scoreless for the third and fourth innings when the Bulldogs were able to bring one home in the fifth inning. Dayton struck back in the home half of the seventh, as DiMartini and Dobie were able to score on a groundout by MacDougall and a single from
Ty Mainolfi, extending the lead to 7-1.Â

In the eighth inning,
Bennett LaPalm took over the mound retired the Bulldogs in order with two strikeouts. Freshman
Ben Dean took the mound for the final frame and also registered two strikeouts to cap off the FlyBoys' win.  Â
