Baseball Drops Opener At Rhode Island, 11-10

Michael DiMartini, Mason Dobie And Rylan Lujo Each Had Three Hits

KINGSTON, R.I. – The University of Dayton baseball team clawed its way back from multiple deficits on Friday afternoon, but it was not enough to overtake Rhode Island, falling to the Rams 11-10 at Bill Beck Field.

Sophomore Michael DiMartini, senior Mason Dobie, and freshman Rylan Lujo each had three hits in the game, while redshirt sophomore Bobby Stang and sophomore Adin Zorn both homered.

Dayton jumped ahead early with a single run in the first, but Rhode Island stormed back with five unanswered runs. The Flyers battled back to take a brief lead in the fifth inning, but the Rams struck back with a four-run frame to regain the advantage.

UD worked its way back to an even score thanks to a run in the top of the eighth, but URI wasted no time and retook the lead with a two-run frame. Although the Flyers plated one run in the top of the ninth, they could not scratch across another.
