Baseball Walked Off For Second Straight Game At Saint Joseph's

UD Takes On Crosstown Rival Wright State Tuesday At Day Air Ballpark

PHILADELPHIA – For the second time in the series, the University of Dayton baseball team fell after a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to Saint Joseph's, dropping the game 4-3 at Smithson Field.

The Flyers clawed back to tie the game at 3-3 in the top of the ninth when senior Mason Dobie doubled home sophomore Adin Zorn. The Hawks wasted no time, however, and plated the winning run in the home half of the frame.

UD's only other offense game in the third inning when sophomore Martin Howell doubled and freshman Ty Mainolfi smacked a two-run home run to give the FlyBoys a brief lead.

Dobie finished the day 2-for-4 at the plate, while both Howell and Mainolfi turned in 1-for-3 performances.

Despite taking the loss, sophomore Bennett LaPalm turned in a strong performance on the mound, allowing just two hits and a walk in four innings of work, tying a career-high of six strikeouts.

BY THE NUMBERS
1.56 – ERA for freshman Lukasz Rondeau after 2.2 innings of work and allowing no earned runs
6 – strikeouts for Bennett LaPalm, tying a career-high
5 – home runs on the season for Ty Mainolfi
