DAYTON – Kicking off its weekend series, the University of Dayton fell behind early and could not overcome Richmond's hot start, falling 9–2 on Friday afternoon at Woerner Field at AES Ohio Stadium.
Ryan MacDougall and
Adin Zorn drove in the team's two runs.
After a scoreless start to the contest, the Spiders broke through in the third after a hit-by-pitch and an error, followed by two key hits that brought three runners home to take a 3-0 lead.
The Flyers answered in the bottom of the third with a
Michael DiMartini single and stolen base, followed by a bloop single to center by
Rylan Lujo.
Ryan MacDougall got UD on the board with a sacrifice fly, but the rally stopped at one run.
Richmond extended its lead in the fourth inning thanks to a ground-rule double that brought in two runs, making it 5–1. The Flyers couldn't respond offensively before a lightning delay paused the for nearly an hour.
After play resumed, the Flyers inched closer thanks to a two-out RBI double from
Adin Zorn that brought home DiMartini, but the Spiders pitching held the offense in check for the rest of the contest.
Richmond scored a single run in the seventh and another pair in the eighth to put the game out of reach, knocking Dayton to .500 in the Atlantic 10 at 11-11.

Dayton will continue in its three-game series on Saturday May 3, returning to Woerner Field to face off against Richmond at 1 pm. Should poor weather in the region hit, the Flyers and Spiders will play a doubleheader on Sunday.
