Men’s Basketball To Play Georgetown at ESPN Events Invitational

The Flyers And Hoyas Play Thursday, Nov. 27 at 7:30 P.M.

ORLANDO – The University of Dayton's fourth appearance in the ESPN Events Invitational will begin with a Thanksgiving showdown against Georgetown on Thursday, Nov. 27. The Flyers and the Hoyas play the second game of the Magic Bracket, tipping off at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

The winner of Thursday's primetime matchup will play the winner of BYU and Miami (Fla.), who play at 5 p.m. on Thursday in the other semifinal. The teams will play the championship game on Friday, Nov. 28, with tip-off set for either 7 p.m. or 9:30 p.m.

Dayton has seen success in its previous three trips to the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Kissimmee, having won the event in both 2011 and 2021, and falling in the championship game in 2015. Overall, the Flyers have an 8-1 record at the event, having defeated the likes of Iowa, Kansas, Miami (Fla.), Minnesota and Wake Forest.

UD and Georgetown have played three times in program history, having not squared off since the memorable 1984 NCAA Tournament when the two matched up in the West Regional Final of the NCAA Tournament. The Flyers won the first meeting with the Hoyas in 1952 at UD Fieldhouse, but Georgetown came out on top of UD in the 1984 and in the NIT in 1978.

The ESPN Events Invitational will mark the 18th consecutive exempt tournament in a full season schedule for UD, once again giving the Flyers another opportunity to enhance their non-conference schedule and increase national attention to the University.
