SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Dayton volleyball team split two four-set matches in day one of the Utah Classic, defeating Lafayette (25-18, 25-18, 24-26, 25-16) and falling to No. 23 Utah (14-25, 20-25, 25-23, 15-25).
The Flyers moved to 1-1 to start the season.

The Flyers took a two-set lead, attacking .359 in the second, before Lafayette won a close 26-24 third set. Dayton came back strong in the fourth set to win 25-16 and take the match, holding the Leopards to a .026 attacking percentage in the fourth set. Overall, Dayton out-hit Lafayette .258 to .093.

Utah won the first two sets, but Dayton came back in the third set to push a fourth set. In the fourth, there were four lead changes before the Utes went on an eight-point run to outpace the Flyers to win the match.
