#UDWSOC Cruises Past Akron

The Flyers Scored Twice Before Halftime And Again Before The Final Whistle

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team hosted the University of Akron on Friday night as part of Senior Night for the Flyers.

Dayton (3-3-2) powered its way to a shutout victory over Akron (3-2-1), who suffered its second loss of the year.

UD had its chances early, but it wasn't until the 41st minute that the Flyers were able to put one home with the opening goal from sophomore Lauryn Contini unassisted.

Just two minutes later, senior Ella Raimondi doubled Dayton's lead off the putback from redshirt sophomore Olivia Baca's initial shot attempt.

In the 83rd minute, sophomore Laney Smith put the game away with a hard shot from the far post off the cross from Karli Ferguson.

KEY STATS
  • The Flyers nearly struck in the fourth minute on a shot attempt by senior Karli Ferguson, but it was guided just wide by the Zip keeper.
  • Dayton outshot Akron 13-6 in the first half and put six on frame to the Zips' zero on goal.
  • UD finished the game with the second most shots this season at 23, trailing only the 35 attempts in the season opener at Wright State.
  • It was the first goal for both Contini and Raimondi this season. It was Smith's team-leading second goal of the campaign.
  • There were 22 different Flyers that saw action Friday night.
  • Riley Kerber led the way with seven shots while Smith had four.
