DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team hosted the University of Akron on Friday night as part of Senior Night for the Flyers.
Dayton (3-3-2) powered its way to a shutout victory over Akron (3-2-1), who suffered its second loss of the year.
UD had its chances early, but it wasn't until the 41
st minute that the Flyers were able to put one home with the opening goal from sophomore
Lauryn Contini unassisted.
Just two minutes later, senior
Ella Raimondi doubled Dayton's lead off the putback from redshirt sophomore
Olivia Baca's initial shot attempt.
In the 83
rd minute, sophomore
Laney Smith put the game away with a hard shot from the far post off the cross from
Karli Ferguson.
KEY STATS
- The Flyers nearly struck in the fourth minute on a shot attempt by senior Karli Ferguson, but it was guided just wide by the Zip keeper.
- Dayton outshot Akron 13-6 in the first half and put six on frame to the Zips' zero on goal.
- UD finished the game with the second most shots this season at 23, trailing only the 35 attempts in the season opener at Wright State.
- It was the first goal for both Contini and Raimondi this season. It was Smith's team-leading second goal of the campaign.
- There were 22 different Flyers that saw action Friday night.
- Riley Kerber led the way with seven shots while Smith had four.
