Evansville On Tap For Men's Soccer

Dayton and Evansville to Square Off Wednesday at 7 p.m.

DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will host Evansville Wednesday night at Baujan Field. The Flyers and Purple Aces will get underway at 7 p.m. Sept. 16 on UD's campus and admission is free.

ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton's (2-1-3) opened Atlantic 10 Conference play with a 3-1 win over visiting Saint Joseph's Saturday night. Freshman Farouq Ogundare became the seventh Flyer to score a goal this season as he netted what proved to be the game winner in the 16th minute. Senior Ethan Sassine leads the Flyers' offense with four goals and three different players have handed out two assists each. Senior Gavin Krenecki has worked five of UD's six matches on the season in goal and has a 0.40 GAA.

SCOUTING EVANSVILLE
Evansville (1-2-4) is coming off a 3-0 victory over Southern Indiana Saturday to get the Aces into the win column. Andres Escudero (3) scored two goals in just 44 minutes of action against the screaming Eagles. Devin Sheperd also has three goals on the season while goalkeeper Michal Mroz has played the full 630 minutes between the posts for Evansville and carries a 1.29 GAA.

SERIES STUFF
Evansville Leads, 12-2-1
In a series that dates back to 1978, Evansville holds the commanding lead over Dayton through 15 previous matches. The pair last squared off on Sept. 25, 2005 in Evansville as UD came away with a 6-2 win. The Flyers have won the last two meetings.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton picked up three points with its 3-1 win over Saint Joseph's Saturday, both team's Atlantic 10 opener. Three different players scored a goal in the match, including freshman Farouq Ogundare who tallied his first career goal in the 16th minute. The Flyers combined for a season-high 19 shots, led by junior Martin Bakken with four including his second goal of the year. Seven players were on the field the full 90 minutes, including senior Gavin Krenecki who recorded his second win of the season.

UP NEXT
Dayton will step back into conference play on Saturday as it travels to Richmond, Va., to take on VCU. The Flyers and Rams will square off at 7 p.m. Sept. 20 at VCU's Sports Backers Stadium.
