BRONX, N.Y. – The University of Dayton volleyball team bested Fordham in three sets (25-18, 25-13, 25-20) on Friday night.
Fordham came out strong against the Flyers early in the first set, but Dayton capitalized on a 20-18 lead, going on a five-point run to win the first set. Senior Kamryn Hunt and sophomore Charlotte Vinson combined for three kills in the run, with freshman Sidney Sprada earning a service ace for set point. Junior Abigail Cresse combined with Vinson for a block at 25-18.
In the early part of set two, Dayton began a 13-point run, highlighted by three consecutive aces for sophomore Morgan Asleson, from down 9-8 to leading 21-9. Cresse shined in the run as well with a kill, a block assist and a solo block. The Flyers capitalized on errors by the Rams, putting away set two on a pair of kills for Vinson.
After eight ties scores and three lead changes to trail 15-14, the Flyers regained a lead on a five-point run. Dayton's middles were significant in the run with kills for Cresse and Liening. With a 22-19 lead, Hunt and junior Corrie Anderson tallied kills to set the Flyers up for match point, earning a 25-20 win in the third set on another kill by Anderson.
