DAYTON – The Pioneer Football League released its weekly award winners Sunday evening and recognized a pair of University of Dayton student-athletes for their efforts last weekend.
Senior wide receiver
Gavin Lochow picked up PFL Offensive Player of the Week honors while fellow receiver and junior
LeRoy Lewis IV earned Special Teams Player of the Week accolades.
Lochow scored three touchdowns, two through the air and one on the ground, in Dayton's thrilling 37-32 victory over San Diego this past weekend. The senior receiver caught a 10-yard pass with 1:30 left in the second quarter to put UD ahead by 11 going into the half, then followed up with the first score of the second half with a 56-yard rushing touchdown, the longest carry of his career. Then with the Flyers trailing 32-30 and :32 left in the game, quarterback
Bryce Schondelmyer hit a streaking Lochow in the corner of the end zone to clinch the victory for Dayton. Lochow finished the game with 11 catches and 145 all-purpose yards (56 rushing, 83 receiving, six return yards).

Lewis IV recorded a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in Dayton's victory over San Diego. The junior receiver finished the contest with three returns for 160 yards, including the career-long of 97 yards. It came at a crucial time for the Flyers as they trailed 10-0 midway through the first quarter, sparking the UD comeback.Â
The duo joined teammates
Paul Kelly (Special Teams POW),
Javawn Brooks (Defensive POW), and
Joe Kingsbury (Defensive POW) as Flyer award winners this season.
Dayton will return to action this Saturday on the road at Stetson as the Flyers look to hold on to a tie for first place in the league standings.
