DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team began its home opener series against Eastern Kentucky with a dominating 17-7 win.
The second game of the doubleheader made it to the sixth inning before getting suspended due to a lack of light. The FlyBoys are leading 12-9 over the Colonels.
Game one began with a home run by EKU and back-to-back solo shots from the Flyers.
After Eastern Kentucky pulled ahead to 7-2 in the top of the second, Dayton scored one run in the following side, before going on to put up 15 unanswered runs. Jason Bello and Colin Lynch hit home runs in the fifth with two RBI hits by Tommy Ahlers Jr. and Michael Smith Jr. helping to extend the lead.
A sacrifice fly by Martin Howell gave Dayton the 10-run advantage to end the game.
