#FlyBoys Win Two Games To Sweep Series Over Colonels

Sunday’s Game Canceled Due To Cold Weather

DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team picked up two wins over Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The Flyers completed the previously suspended second game of the series, winning 12-9. The second game of the day was a defensive battle, with UD coming out on top 3-1.

GAME ONE
Dayton 12, Eastern Kentucky 9

On Friday afternoon, EKU took a 7-0 lead in the first inning, with the FlyBoys tying the game up mainly by a home run by Sam Stem in the third, a two-RBI single by Jason Bello and a three-run homer by Michael Smith Jr. in the fourth.

Trailing 9-7, a two-run home run to left center by Martin Howell and a three-run home run to left field gave UD the lead before the game was suspended. The Flyers held onto their lead on Saturday morning to get the win.

Michael Fortes got credit for the win, with Jon Whiteside entering the game Saturday morning and earning the save.

GAME TWO
Dayton 3, Eastern Kentucky 1

In the second game of the day, Dayton got on the board in the third inning, taking advantage of a Colonels' error, adding on two more with a single by Grayson Carpenter and a triple by Stem.

EKU tallied a home run in the fourth, but the Flyers' defense prevented Eastern Kentucky from tallying any more runs.
