Baseball Defeats VCU 14-12 In Series Finale

The FlyBoys Scored Six Runs In The First

DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team concluded its home series against VCU with a 14-12 win on Sunday afternoon.

After VCU struck first, Dayton opened up a six-run first inning with a three-run home run by Bobby Stang. Grayson Carpenter followed it up with a two-RBI, three-run double to right center, advancing to third on an error by the Rams.

The FlyBoys tacked on four more runs in the third inning. After tallying a run on a walk, Aiden Heberlie stole home for the team's eighth run on the day. Carpenter scored on a VCU error before Stang tallied his fourth RBI on a single to right field, making the score 10-2.

With Dyrenson Wouters on second, Jason Bello went yard into left center to widen Dayton's lead.

Both teams scored in the fifth frame, with Danny MacDougall coming home on a wild pitch.

After VCU tallied a run on a sacrifice fly in the sixth, Ryan MacDougall hit a home run into right center, scoring the Flyers' final run of the day.

The Rams posted eight runs in the final three innings, but Dayton held its lead to win the game.
