DAVIDSON, N.C. – The University of Dayton baseball team started its series with Davidson with a 20-4 win.
Sawyer Jensen pitched five innings with the start, getting the win.
After Davidson scored four runs on two home runs, the FlyBoys had a clutch fifth inning. With Ryan MacDougall on third, Michael Smith Jr. singled to the shortstop, allowing MacDougall to score. Bobby Stang cut into the Wildcats' lead with an RBI single up the middle. With Smith and Stang on base, Colin Lynch hit beyond the left field fence, clearing the bases and giving Dayton a 5-4 lead.
Dayton doubled its runs in the sixth, scoring on a groundout by Grayson Carpenter and RBI singles from Danny MacDougall, Smith Jr., Stang and Lynch. The hit parade continued after a pitching change, with Sam Stem hitting an RBI single through the right side. With bases loaded, Dyrenson Wouters reached on a fielder's choice, tallying two RBIs. Ryan MacDougall pushed the FlyBoys up 14-4 on a groundout to second base.
Lynch continued his stellar performance in the seventh inning with an RBI single through the left side, widening UD's lead to 15-4.
After a weather delay in the top of the eighth, Dayton scored two runs on wild pitches. Stang doubled to the center field fence for another run before the FlyBoys scored their 19th run of the game on a walk. With bases loaded, Wouters singled through the right side, earning his third RBI on the day.
