DAVIDSON, N.C. – The University of Dayton baseball team fell to Davidson 9-8 in a tense 12-inning game.
Michael Smith Jr. got the day started with a two-run home run to left field.
In the second inning, Ryan MacDougall homered into right center, giving the FlyBoys a 3-0 lead.
Dayton continued to score runs in the third inning. Dyrenson Wouters grounded out to second base, giving Colin Lynch the scoring opportunity. After Bobby Stang scored on a wild pitch, MacDougall hit his second home run of the day deep into left field to make the score 7-0.
Davidson responded with a three-run home run in the bottom of the third, making it a one-run game in the bottom of the sixth.
In the seventh, the FlyBoys scored on a wild pitch. In the bottom of the frame, the Wildcats tied the game on an error by Dayton at eight apiece.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 12th inning, when Davidson walked the game off with a single.
