AKRON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team took down Akron 14-11 on Wednesday.
After Akron posted six runs in the first, Michael Smith Jr. got Dayton on the board with a three-run home run to left center.
The Zips responded with a solo shot in the bottom of the second, but Colin Lynch and Jason Bello cut Akron's lead again with a pair of home runs to make it an 8-5 game.
In the fourth, Danny MacDougall scored on a strikeout with Lynch clearing the bases to tie the game.
Amir Gray tallied his first RBI for the FlyBoys, breaking the tie in the top of the sixth. Ryan MacDougall added insurance runs with a three-run homer.
Grayson Carpenter hit an RBI single in the seventh to make it a 13-8 game, with Bello recording an RBI double to center field to earn Dayton's final run of the day. Akron tallied three in the eighth, but the Flyers held their lead.
