DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team won 12-5 in the first game of the series against Maine.
The Black Bears struck first with a home run in the first inning, but Dayton pulled out in front with a seven-run third inning.
A double by Danny MacDougall tied the game, with Colin Lynch tacking on runs with a two-RBI single. Jason Bello singled, scoring another run for a 4-1 game. Bobby Stang ended scoring with a shot to left center, clearing the bases and giving the FlyBoys a 7-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, Dyrenson Wouters hit a double down the left field line, allowing three runs to cross the plate. With Wouters on third, MacDougall hit a double to center field, pushing Dayton's lead to double-digits.
Maine hit three home runs to cut the Flyers' lead, but Dayton kept out in front for the win.
