DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team ended its last non-conference series with a pair of wins against Maine, winning 10-9 and 14-8.
Darkness suspended Saturday's game in the bottom of the ninth inning, forcing Michael Smith Jr. and Colin Lynch to come up big in their at-bats on Sunday.
GAME ONE
Dayton 10, Maine 9
After Maine opened the game with a home run, Dayton responded with four runs, including a two-run home run by Bobby Stang. With a three-run home run for the Black Bears in the second, Jason Bello brought in a run on a sacrifice fly to regain the lead.
Trailing 9-5, the FlyBoys needed to come up big in the bottom of the ninth inning. Stang scored on a passed ball, and Grayson Carpenter reached on a fielder's choice to cut Maine's lead to two before the game was suspended for the night.
With bases loaded and two outs, Smith Jr. singled to the shortstop, giving Stang and Carpenter the scoring opportunity. Carpenter, with the game tied, singled through the right side, walking off the game on Sunday afternoon.
