DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team beat the Wright State Raiders by a score of 9-5 Wednesday evening at Day Air Ballpark, home of the Dayton Dragons.
After the Raiders struck first in the top of the first, UD responded with a run in the second via a Jason Bello sacrifice fly.
The FlyBoys jumped ahead in the third when Grayson Carpenter dashed home from third on a wild pitch.
Wright State would reclaim the lead in the fifth with a two-run home run over the right field fence. The Raider lead didn't last very long, however, as Bobby Stang and Dyerson Wouters crushed back-to-back homers in the bottom of the frame to propel the Flyers ahead 5-3.
Michael Smith Jr. tacked one more insurance run onto the lead in the sixth with an RBI double.
Smith Jr. drove in another two runs in the eighth on an RBI single up the middle to push the lead to 8-3. Stang then brought Smith Jr. home with his third RBI of the game on a single up the middle.
A two-run home run in the top of the ninth cut the FlyBoys' lead, but Michael Fortes ended the game catching a batter looking.
