RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Dayton baseball team could not pull off the comeback, dropping the final game of the series against Richmond 11-9.
Trailing 3-0, Danny MacDougall put the FlyBoys on the board in the third inning with a solo home run to left field.
After Richmond took a 9-1 lead, Jason Bello hit a two-run bomb beyond the left field fence to make the score 9-3.
In the eighth inning, Dayton tallied a pair of runs on a walk and a sacrifice fly from MacDougall, keeping the game within six runs at 11-5.
The FlyBoys attempted a comeback in the top of the ninth. Dyrenson Wouters hit a double into left field, allowing Ryan MacDougall to score from second base. Bello hit his second home run of the day, this time to center field, putting the game within three at 11-8. Michael Smith Jr. earned the final RBI of the day with a hit by pitch.
