ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The University of Dayton baseball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 6-3 win against St. Bonaventure.
Dayton scored a run in the top of the first, taking advantage of an error by the Bonnies.
After St. Bonaventure tied the game in the bottom of the second, neither team scored until the top of the fifth. Michael Smith Jr. singled to the shortstop, getting to first before a play could be made and picking up an RBI.
The FlyBoys' offense continued in the sixth, with Grayson Carpenter singling through the left side for an RBI single. Danny MacDougall helped Dayton take a 4-1 lead, hitting his first triple of the season and allowing Carpenter to score. With MacDougall in scoring position, Smith Jr. singled to right field for a 5-1 lead.
St. Bonaventure tallied a run on a double in the seventh, but Smith Jr. responded in the top of the eighth with a triple to right center, keeping UD out ahead 6-2.
The Bonnies scored their third run on a hit by pitch, but the Flyers held their lead for the win.
Sawyer Jensen pitched 7.1 innings, earning the win. The sophomore struck out two batters.
