Dayton Closes A-10 Play this Weekend at Home Against Saint Joseph's

DAYTON - The University of Dayton softball team is set to welcome Miami (Ohio) and Akron to town this week. The Flyers and RedHawks are set for a 4 p.m. tilt on Tuesday followed by a 3 p.m. contest Wednesday between UD and UA. Admission is free.

ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton (21-21) stepped out of Atlantic 10 play last week for three non-conference road games, a single at Butler (L, 7-6) last Wednesday and a double at Pitt (L, 4-3 (8); L, 8-3) on Saturday. On offense, junior Deirdre Flaherty (.380) leads three Flyers hitting above .300 and has tallied a team-best 33 RBI, including 10 multi-RBI games, and nine doubles while junior Kirnan Bailey (.355) paces the team with 49 hits, 35 runs and 38 stolen bases (3rd NCAA). Bailey's 0.90 stolen bases per game ranks third nationally and her 26-game reached-base streak is tied for the seventh-longest active streak in all of DI. Senior righty Izz Kemp (14-7) boasts the team's low ERA of 2.14 (38th NCAA) and she has 237 Ks (3rd NCAA), eight complete games and three saves over 134.1 innings of work this season. Her 12.3 strikeouts per seven innings ranks second nationally.

SCOUTING MIAMI (OHIO)
Miami (35-15) picked up the 2-1 MAC series win at Central Michigan over the weekend as the RedHawks moved to 16-8 in conference play. Miami has seven everyday players hitting above .300 led by Bailey Manos (.428) who has 65 hits, 48 runs, 54 RBI and 13 stolen bases. In the circle, Presley Hosick (17-5) carries the team's low ERA of 2.57 with 16 complete games and 85 strikeouts over 147.1 innings pitched.

SCOUTING AKRON
Akron (29-22) also claimed a 2-1 MAC series on the road last weekend, taking the first two games at Ohio before falling to the Bobcats in the finale. Meagan Lee (.423) paces the Zips offense with 71 hits, 45 runs and eight stolen bases with Sophia Wygast (.356) leads the team with 56 RBI, 24 walks and 10 home runs. Madie Jamrog (14-6) leads Akron's pitching corps with a 3.63 ERA, 79 strikeouts and 13 complete games over 148.1 innings this season.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton was in the Steel City on Saturday for two at Pitt. The Flyers forced extra innings in game one before the Panthers were able to claim a 4-3 win in eight and then Pitt used a six-run fourth innings in the nightcap to put the game out of reach, winning, 8-3. Freshman Izzy Calinski recorded a double and a home run in game one while senior Molly Grace recorded her ninth multi-hit game of the season in game two.

RPI RANKINGS
In the NCAA's most recent Rating Percentage Index (RPI) through games on April 26, Dayton ranked 209 according to NCAA.com. Miami (Ohio) came in at 70 and Akron is at 101. 

UP NEXT
Dayton will close out the 2026 regular season at home this weekend with a three-game conference series against Saint Joseph's. The Flyers and Hawks will play a single game on Friday at 3 p.m. followed by a doubleheader Saturday at 12 p.m.Senior recognize will be taking place on Saturday. All games are played at UD Softball Stadium and admission is free.
