ARLINGTON, Va. – The University of Dayton baseball team continued to take advantage of the long ball, winning the second game of the series with George Washington 7-5 in 11 innings.
A pitching battle ensued in the first four innings of the game, with John Delgado striking out four batters.
In the top of the fifth, Danny MacDougall hit a two-run home run off the scoreboard in left field.
Colin Lynch made it a 3-0 game with an RBI double to left center.
Dyrenson Wouters got on base for the first time in the game in the bottom of the seventh, singling through the left side and allowing MacDougall to score for a 4-1 score.
MacDougall led off the ninth inning with a solo home run to center field. The Revolutionaries tied the game in the bottom of the frame, forcing extra innings.
After neither team scored in the tenth, MacDougall doubled with two outs, setting the single-season doubles record. With Michael Smith Jr. getting on base with a walk, Wouters singled to left center, allowing for MacDougall and Smith Jr. to score for a 7-5 lead to ultimately win the game in the 11th inning.
