#FlyBoys Win High-Scoring Affair With La Salle, 21-14

Dayton Hit Five Home Runs

DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team took home the series with La Salle with a 21-14 win on Sunday afternoon.

La Salle posted six runs in the first inning, including a two-run home run and a bases-clearing, three-RBI double. Ryan MacDougall put the Flyers on the board with a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning.

A three-run home run gave the Explorers a 9-1 lead, but a grand slam by Michael Smith Jr., directly followed by a solo homer from Dyrenson Wouters, cut UD's deficit to 9-6.

Despite La Salle posting a pair of runs on a two-run home run to right center, Dayton pulled ahead with a six-run third inning. Jason Bello opened the scoring in the bottom of the third with a home run. Danny MacDougall hit a double to far right field for a run to score. Wouters then cleared the bases with a three-RBI double. Ryan MacDougall brought Wouters home on a single to right center and gave UD a 12-11 lead.

The FlyBoys' offense continued to tack on runs in the fifth frame. A single by Smith Jr. tallied a run with sacrifice flies from Wouters and Colin Lynch added on insurance runs for a 15-11 score.

The sixth inning saw more home runs with a one-run home run for La Salle and a two-run homer for Ryan MacDougall.

In the eighth, Bello hit his second home run of the day, this time down the left field line and bringing home Michael Lucarelli. Alejandro Sardinas doubled up the middle, recording Dayton's 20th run of the day. Grayson Carpenter hit a sacrifice fly to tally the final Flyers' run.
