DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team kicked off the weekend with an 11-6 win over George Mason.
The Patriots struck first on an RBI single in the top of the first.
Jason Bello singled up the middle in the bottom of the second to tie the game. After Grayson Carpenter hit a sacrifice fly, Bobby Stang scored on a wild pitch to give the FlyBoys a 3-1 lead. Dyrenson Wouters then took advantage of an error by George Mason, clearing the bases and adding on three insurance runs.
George Mason cut Dayton's lead by two in the third, but Colin Lynch responded with a two-run home run to center field to regain a four-run lead.
In the fifth, Lynch hit an RBI single to left center to make the score 9-5.
Dayton reached double-digits in the sixth, scoring on a passed ball.
The FlyBoys tallied their 11th run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single from Carpenter. Mason scored in the eighth, but UD maintained its lead for the 11-6 win.
