DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team was unable to win the series, falling to George Mason in the tenth inning in a 6-4 ball game.
Neither team scored until the third inning, when Michael Smith Jr. hit a single through the gap in the right side, allowing Grayson Carpenter to come home.
After the Patriots tied the game in the fourth, the Flyers regained their lead on a sacrifice fly to left field from Bobby Stang.
George Mason took a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh on a two-RBI single, but a home run from Carpenter in the bottom half of the inning tied the game. The home run also helped set a single-season team record of 79 home runs.
The FlyBoys regained a narrow, one-run lead off the bat of Ryan MacDougall, who homered to right field.
George Mason tied the game once again in the top of the ninth, posting two runs in the top of the tenth.
