DAYTON – Liana Sarkissian, one of the newest alumnae of the University of Dayton volleyball team, has signed a professional volleyball contract.
The middle blocker/opposite will be a middle blocker for the Ladies in Black, a First Bundesliga team in the Volleyball Bundesliga based in Aachen, Germany. Last season, the Ladies in Black finished in sixth place in their league and advanced to the quarterfinals in postseason competition.
"We're excited for Liana to have this opportunity. She's worked hard to achieve the level to play as a pro, and I believe she will have a great pro career overseas or even here in the States," said Head Coach Tim Horsmon. "Liana is really versatile and will help her team offensively and block at a really high level. We will be following Ladies in Black and will be fans from this point forward."
Appearing in 115 matches in her career with the Flyers, Sarkissian tallied 669 kills with a .326 attack percentage. Defensively, she posted 303 total blocks and 161 digs.
The Greenwich, Conn. native was highly decorated in her time as a Flyer. She was a two-time AVCA All-Midwest Region selection and a two-time All-Atlantic 10 selection, making the second team in 2024 and the first team in 2025. She also earned Dayton's Award of Excellence for Achievement in Academic and Athletic Efforts and the program's Flyer Award this season. As a junior, she was Dayton's Rising Star Award winner.
"I'm really grateful for the opportunity to keep pursuing the game I love at the next level. Legacy means so much to our program, and I'm really grateful to have been a small part of it," said Sarkissian. "The coaches, my teammates, and the culture have all helped me grow so much as both a player and a person. It's been such a special place to be part of, and it's prepared me to take this next step in my career. I'm really thankful for all the support along the way and excited for what's ahead."
Sarkissian will become one of eight Flyers to play professionally.
