TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Dayton volleyball team defeated South Florida in four sets on Friday night (26-24, 25-21, 16-25, 25-20).
Dayton tied the first set at 24 apiece on a kill from Kamryn Hunt. Sydney Barrett entered the match to serve, getting an ace for set point. The Flyers clinched the first set on an attack error for the 1-0 set lead.
Set two remained close. With the Flyers leading 22-21, Dayton went on a three-point run to take a 2-0 lead on kills by Hunt, Charlotte Vinson and Sidney Sprada.
Leading 16-13, South Florida went on a five-point run for a 21-13 lead. The Flyers tallied three more points in the set, but the Bulls were able to outpace Dayton to make it a 2-1 match in favor of UD.
The Flyers started the fourth set down 8-4, coming back to tie the set at 18 apiece. Dayton took the lead on a kill from Hunt and an attack error by South Florida. After a kill for the Bulls, the Flyers went on a four-point run to earn match point. Gabriela Machin Borges brought the home the match with the final kill.
