OLEAN, N.Y. – The University of Dayton women's soccer team kicked off the Atlantic 10 campaign with a dominant 5-0 win over St. Bonaventure at the Marra Athletic Fields Complex on Saturday night.
 
UD (4-5-0, 1-0-0 A10) got on the board in the first half when the pressure applied by sophomore Emery Newlin and junior Liv Grenda forced the SBU (3-4-1, 0-1-0 A10) defense to make an error and score in its own net.
 
The rest of the first stanza was quiet, but the Flyers came out firing on all cylinders in the second half.
 
Junior Laney Smith netted the Flyers' second goal on a beautiful feed from fellow junior Lauryn Contini in the 50th minute, then freshman Reese Gallagher tallied her second career goal in the 62nd minute to put the Flyers ahead 3-0. Gallagher smashed home a rebound off a feed from sophomore Caroline Schork, who was just beginning a great night on the pitch.
 
Senior defender Eva Schreiber converted on a wonderful feed from Schork to put UD up 4-0 in the 82nd minute, and sophomore Emery Newlin finished another brilliant feed from Schork in the 87th to put the finishing touches on the match. Schork's third assist of the match was the just the eighth time in the last 15 years that a Flyer has had three-or-more assists in a match.
 
Dayton dominated the stat sheet, out-shooting the Bonnies 29-2, including a 17-2 on-goal advantage, and finishing the match with six corners kicks to St. Bonaventure's two.
