DAYTON – The University of Dayton volleyball team swept Davidson in the Frericks Center on Saturday (25-23, 25-19, 25-12), opening conference play 2-0.

Down 23-20 in the opening set, the Flyers went on a five-point run to win the frame. After a service error by Davidson, freshman Ava Liening and senior Kamryn Hunt tallied kills, tying the set and forcing a timeout by Davidson. Out of the timeout, senior Gabriela Machin Borges joined Liening for a pair of block assists to win the set 25-23.

Dayton held onto a lead through most of the second set. Leading 20-19, the Flyers scored five unanswered to take a 2-0 set lead. Fifth-year Kaleigh Meritt began the run, with junior Abigail Cresse and sophomore Charlotte Vinson earning two block assists.

The third set was all Dayton. The Flyers took an early 10-3 lead on a seven-point run. Dayton took a 20-8 lead in the set, taking advantage of nine errors for Davidson. Junior Sydney Barrett tallied a kill for match point before an error gave Dayton the win in three.
