2011-12 Men's Basketball Roster
Biography
In limited action during the 2010-2011 season, Ralph Hill displayed his shooting ability. The 6-6 forward can play in the post, but also can shoot from downtown. More than half of his shots for the season were from beyond that arc, and he connected on 50% of his three-point shots.
With the loss of Chris Wright and Devin Searcy in the post, Hill will have to play more down low while still displaying his shooting touch from beyond the arc. Hill should see time at the small forward and power forward spots for the 2011-2012 season.
Hill is a former Division I All-Ohio Third Team and First Team All-Central District selection from Westerville North High School. Hill led Westerville North to an 18-5 record his senior season while averaging 22.6 points per game.
2010-11
Hill played in seven games for the Flyers during his freshman campaign with averages of 1.9 points and 1.1 rebounds per game. He totaled 23 minutes while shooting 5-of-10, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc for the season.
In the first game of the season against Mount Saint Mary’s, Hill knocked down his first collegiate shot as he scored three points, hauled in two rebounds and swatted one shot. Against Florida A&M, he scored two points and grabbed one rebound. At Charlotte, Hill hit his only shot and finished with two points. In the A-10 tournament at UMass, Hill connected on 2-of-3 shots from downtown and finished with a career-high of six points.
High School
Hill is an athletic and skilled combo forward from Westerville North High School and played AAU basketball for CBIZ. As a high school senior, Hill averaged 22.6 points per game while leading his team to an 18-5 record. He was named First Team All-Central District and was also selected to the Division I All-Ohio Third Team.
Hill, a 6’6” 195 pound small forward, is known for his ability to knock down shots. In the Ohio North-South All-Star game, Hill connected on 9-of-13 field goals to finish with 18 points. Hill led Westerville North to a victory at Dublin Scioto, scoring 30 points, which included six three pointers. He also scored 26 points and chipped in four three pointers in a win against rival Westerville Central. Hill also has a knack for knocking down free throws. He made 8-of-8 free throws in scoring 28 points and collected nine rebounds, three assists and three steals to help Westerville North defeat Flora Macdonald Academy in the 2010 Flyin’ to the Hoop Tournament.
In the past, Hill has earned the trust of his coaches and his players. Hill’s former high school point guard contends that “Ralph works hard to win. He plays hard every single practice. He wants to be perfect. With him, it all starts in the offseason.” Furthermore, Hill’s high school coach describes him as “not just a basketball player, but a fast player with great hands and skill. Ralph gets better every year. He works at it. You can tell him what to work on and he goes at it.”
