CRONIN ATHLETICS CENTER
The Cronin Athletic Center is part of a comprehensive facility upgrade for University of Dayton athletics. In the last ten years, the University of Dayton has invested $35 million in its athletics facilities (primarily coming from private donations and corporate support). The on-campus home for every Flyer sports program has been either newly constructed or renovated in that time.
In May of 2011 the University of Dayton, Division of Athletics announced that its multi-sport on-campus practice facility had been given a new name. The facility, which is used by all 17 Flyer intercollegiate sports teams, is now known as the "Cronin Athletics Center."
The 9,000 square foot project created additional space for the Office of Academic Services for Student Athletes as well as UD's other nationally-recognized athletics programs.
The Cronin Athletics Center is named for Tom and Mike Cronin, whose generosity allowed the University of Dayton Division of Athletics to move forward with the project. Tom is the President and CEO of Dayton Freight, a company he founded in 1981. Mike is the Executive Vice-President of Dayton Freight. The Cronin's and Dayton Freight are long-time supporters of UD Athletics.
The Cronin Athletics Center was first built as UD's first recreational facility for the student body in 1976. When the University opened the $24 million RecPlex in a location more central to student housing, it was taken over by Athletics in a planned reuse of the facility in 2005.
Project cost for the renovation of the Cronin Athletics Center equaled $7.1 million and was funded by the generosity of 22 donors and corporations. Edge & Tinney served as architect for the project.
