2008
After an injury plagued junior year which forced him to redshirt in 2007, team co-captain Mike Andersen was able to return to a competitive level of running during his fourth year on the squad. The redshirt junior competed in every meet for the Flyers in 2008, leading the team twice and finishing among the top three Flyers in all seven races. Additionally, Andersen was also able to earn his third Atlantic 10 All-Conference award after turning in his best 8K time of the season at the Atlantic 10 Championships (24:15). Other season highlights for Andersen included a fifth place effort at the National Catholic Invitational (25:13) and a runner-up finish at the All-Ohio Championships (25:33).
2007
This two-time All-Conference award winner didn't waste any time showing why he was voted as the Most Valuable Runner in each of his first two years at Dayton. In his first race, the Flyer 5K, Andersen finished second overall, breaking the previous meet record in a time of 15:15. Two weeks later, he smoked the competition at the National Catholic Invitational to win the race and establish an 8K school record time of 24:36, breaking his old mark by nine seconds. There's no question this elite athlete has all the tools to continue his UD career with an astonishing campaign in 2008. Mike holds nine of the Top 50 All-Time 8K Performances at UD as well as the program's second and sixth fastest 10K times at 31:59 and 33:02, respectively.
2006
Voted unanimously as the Most Valuable Runner for the second time in two years, it is no question that Michael Andersen is an incredible athlete. Unable to compete in the winter or spring due to injury, Andersen took it upon himself to push his body over the summer and come back stronger than ever. He set personal bests in each of his first three races (15:21 in the 5K and 24:45 in the 8K) which included a new school record in the 8K. Andersen finished in the top four overall in six out of seven races, including two victories at the Flyer 5K and the Spiked Shoe Invitational. At the A-10 Championships he finished third overall to earn his second consecutive All-Conference Honor. Finishing his season at the NCAA Regional Meet, Andersen set a school record in the 10K, but looks to improve on his place for next year.
2005
The leader of a very talented freshman class, Andersen became the third Flyer in team history to become an All-Conference runner. He finished as the first man in each of the seven varsity competitions, continuously showing improvement the entire time and earning him the "Most Valuable Runner" award. His best performance came during the last 8Kof the season at the Atlantic 10 Championships where he was the first rookie across the line and the ninth runner overall which gave him the Atlantic 10 Outstanding Rookie of the Year Award and a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team. To top it off, Andersen set a school record by running a 25:06, landing him his fourth, and leading, time on the Top 50 All-Time Performance list. His NCAA Regionals time of 33:02 was good for 65th place in the nation's toughest region. His work ethic is tremendous, and that will only help him improve from an already stellar first year.
