As a senior, the defender made every start for the Flyers, leading the team in minutes played this season with 1,848… recognized as a team leader, he also was the Atlantic 10 leader in assists with eight on the year, including two assists in a decisive 3-0 victory over No. 11 Charlotte (Oct. 30) at Baujan Field … took nine shots this season with over half of them on goal (5) finishing with a shot on goal percentage of .556... was named to the Preseason All Conference Team … named Atlantic 10 First Team at the and also named a member of the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second Team… selected to the OCSA All-Ohio First Team and presented with the Coaches Achievement Award at the team’s annual end of the year banquet.
2008Â
The Flyers' Iron Man, Handbury played all 2,043 minutes on the pitch and is one of three UD players to start all 22 games... anchors a defense that posted eight shutouts in 2008, including in the A-10 Championship game against UMass...was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Championship Team...at one point during the season the defense did not allow a goal in 455:05 minutes, all against A-10 opponents which spurred UD to an eight-game unbeaten streak ...in 17 of their 22 games this season Handbury and the UD defense allowed opponents just one goal or less... started the season by earning the coveted "Red Jersey" which goes to the individual who is a symbol of physical and mental determination, competition, and pride and closed the season with the Coaches Achievement Award for his persistence and dedication...named Atlantic 10 Honorable Mention for the third consecutive season...earned NSCAA/adidas All-Mid Atlantic Region Third Team honors for the second straight season.
2007
Handbury once again was stellar at the center back position for the Flyers...played every minute and started all 19 games for UD...recorded a Third Team NSCAA/adidas Division I All-Region, Mid-Atlantic Team selection...named a Third Team All-Ohio selection by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Coaches...helped the Flyers solidify the back and en route to six shutouts on the season...at one point during the 2007 season the Flyers did not allow a goal in their last 282:25 minutes of play...spectacular in the back during UD's win over Temple...best performance came in the Flyers 1-1 tie against UNC Greensboro.
2006
Handbury was one of three Flyers to start all 17 games...was named to the A-10's Honorable Mention Team...scored a goal on eight shots and had an assist...scored a penalty shot in the 35th minute at LaSalle, giving the Flyers a 1-0 win that ended UD's seven-game winless streak...named a member of the All-Tournament and All-Invite Team at the New Mexico's TLC Plumbing and Utility Invite...earned a spot on the 2006 All-Ohio Second Team given out by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association.
Prior to UD
Has excelled in a club setting, playing for the prestigious Nottingham Forest Academy...the talented centerback has been called up to England's U18 National Team three times.
