A member of Dayton's Varsity 8 that won the 2011 Atlantic 10 Championship, Bruening earned a Second Team, All-Atlantic 10 selection after rowing in the Dayton’s Varsity 8 Atlantic 10 Championship boat. Bruening was also a 2011 A-10 All-Academic team selection for the second consecutive season. A true novice, Bruening worked her way up on the depth chart and is one of Dayton’s strongest rowers. Academically, Bruening was named to the 2010 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN the Magazine University Division Academic All-District IV Women's At-Large second team. At the 2011 A-10 Championship, Dayton's Varsity 8 not only won, but set an Atlantic 10 Championship record winning the event by 12.25 seconds, eclipsing the previous mark of 12.0 seconds. The Flyers finished with a time of 7:52.20. The Dayton Women's Varsity 8 was voted the week's Crew of the Week on Row2k.com for their winning their first ever Atlantic 10 Championship.
2009-10
Named to the 2010 Atlantic 10 All-Academic team. A member of Dayton's Varsity 8.
2008-2009
Rowed in the Novice 8 during the spring season, helping her boat place second and team place fourth in the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships. Helped get the same boat to semi-finals in the Dad Vail Regatta. She also made the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Personal:
Daughter of Deborah and David. Has four younger siblings: Brian, James, Peter, and Claire. Majoring in Pre-medicine. Played softball in high school.
