MEN'S SOCCER SUFFERS SUDDEN DEATH VERSUS UMASS, 3-2

The UD men's soccer team rallied late to tie Massachusetts, Friday afternoon at Rudd Field in Amherst, MA, but fell 3-2 in overtime on a goal my Mike Mingione. Omar Jarun (Peachtree City, GA) tallied his fourth of the year and Tye Stebbins (Zionsville, IN) scored his team-leading seventh goal for UD.

The Flyers got on the board first in the 26th minute as Chris Rolfe (Kettering, OH) found Jarun, who beat the keeper to the right post for his fourth goal of the year.

But four minutes later, Massachusetts answered as Oral Bullen headed in a cross from Mike Mingione to tie the match at 11 in the 30th. Just 23 seconds later, Bullen put UMass on top by scoring from three-yards out off an assist from Richie Higa.

With 10:16 remaing, the Flyers knotted the game at 2-2 as Jarun setup Stebbins, who beat UMass keeper to the top right corner from six yards out.

The golden goal came 6:20 into the first overtime for UMass as Mingione took a feed from Greg Cirillo and found the back of the net to give the Minutemen the victory

Dayton out-shot Massachusetts 17-12 for the match.

Stebbins leads UD with seven goals and two assists for 16 points. The three-point afternoon for Jarun give him nine points. All of his other goals had been game-winners. Rolfe picks up his sixth point in as many games.

The Flyers fall to 6-5-2 overall and 3-2-0 in the Atlantic 10. UMass improves to 5-6-2 overall and 2-1-2 in the A-10. UD is at Rhode Island on Sunday, at 1:00 p.m. Live stats will be available at DaytonFlyers.com.
