STEBBINS NAMED TO MEN'S SOCCER ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA TEAM

Nov. 22, 2004

DAYTON, OH -- - Tye Stebbins (Zionsville, IN) became the sixth University of Dayton men's soccer player to be named Academic All-America Monday when the senior midfielder was named to the 2004 ESPN Academic All-America Men's Soccer Third Team. Stebbins earned a spot on the Academic All-District Team for the second-straight year for his 3.884 GPA in International Business. He also picked up a nod on the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference First Team.

Stebbins was named to the Men's Soccer Atlantic 10 All-Championship Team earlier this November for his play in the tournament. The senior from Zionsville, IN was a First-Team All-Atlantic 10 selection after finishing the regular season fifth in the conference in points with 20 and goals with eight.

He started every game in the previous three seasons and now overall has started 74 out of a total of 80 games since coming to UD. For his career, Stebbins totaled 16 goals and 16 assists for 48 points. His assist total places him fifth all-time on UD's helper list.

The other Flyers to earn Academic All-America honors were Dan Bestic (Second Team, 2001), Wade Fischer (Second Team, 2001; At Large Team, 2000), R.J. Kaszuba (At Large Team, 2000). Drew Krafcik (1997) and Mark Schulte (1998) were named Academic All-Americans by the NSCAA.

Dayton earned the number two overall seed in the Atlantic 10 Tournament, finishing second with a regular season mark of 8-3-0. The Flyers were knocked off in the semifinals, 3-0, on Friday by Temple to finish at 11-7-2 overall. Host George Washington downed Temple to claim the A-10 title.

In Stebbins' four-year career, Dayton was 43-29-6, including 27-15-2. The Flyers earned their highest-ever national ranking last season, peaking at No. 8 on October 13.
