FLYERS FALL AT GW DESPITE DOUBLE-DOUBLES

WASHINGTON, DC - The University of Dayton women's basketball team fell at George Washington despite double-double efforts from Junior forward Cara Wright and sophomore forward Jennifer Strong, 71-59, Sunday afternoon at the Smith Center. Strong finished with 16 points and 11rebounds for her first of the season, while Wright's 17 points and 11 rebounds were her eighth of the year.

Dayton (10-11; 4-6 Atlantic 10) also received a career-high 10 points for freshman guard Kiki Lund. George Washington (14-7; 7-3 A-10) was led by Jessica Simmonds' 18 points.

The Colonials opened the game with back-to-back baskets before UD responded to tie the game at 4-4 on buckets from Jennifer Strong and Terri Ramsey. Angela Cape and Cara Wright scored inside as the Flyers led 8-6 four minutes in. GW then reeled off eight-straight points before Wright converted a three-point play.

Four-straight points in the paint from Wright gave UD a 15-14 lead with 7:57 to go in the first. The Flyers held GW without a field goal for over seven minutes, as Kiki Lund, Katie Butler and Wright all scored in a 17-1 UD run.

GW answered with five-straight points to pull within 25-20, but Strong knocked down a three and Angela Cape added a put-back as UD led 30-23 with 2:59 to go in the first. After the Colonials pulled within four, Nikki Oakland scored four-straight points as the Flyers took a 34-28 lead into halftime.

Wright led all scorers at the break with 13 points on six-of-eight shooting. She also had five rebounds as UD owned a 22-13 edge on the glass.

The Colonials opened the second half with an 8-2 run over the first 2:10 to tie the game at 36-36. After four-straight GW points, Lund and Strong nailed back-to-back three point shots to give UD a 42-40 lead. But Kimberly Beck took over for GW, first completing the rare four-point play, and then drawing an and-one in the paint.

A three from Lund brought UD within six, at 53-47, but GW stretched the lead to 12 with 6:09 to go. The Colonials closed out with an 8-4 run.

The Flyers owned a 42-39 lead in rebounding, but the Colonials scored 28 points off UD turnovers to emain undefeated this season at the Smith Center at 10-0, with a 17-game home court unbeaten streak.

Dayton returns home to UD Arena to host Massachusetts on Friday, February 11, in a 7:00 p.m. conference game. The Flyers will entertain La Salle on Sunday, February 13 at 12:00 p.m.
