June 23, 2005

DAYTON, OH - University of Dayton head coach Jim Jabir named former Toledo assistant coach Bernard Scott as an assistant coach today.

"We're delighted to add Bernard to our staff," Jabir said. "He's extremely talented at developing players. He has a great work ethic and is strong with his technical knowledge. Bernard is a great addition as we continue to take steps towards a championship level of play."

"I'm very excited to have this opportunity to join the Dayton program," Scott said. "I'm very eager to work with such a great and hard working group of coaches like Coach Jabir and his staff. With that hard work and the support that the program receives from the administration and the community, I know this program is moving forward in the right direction."

Scott spent the last four seasons with the Lady Rockets, first as third assistant and the past two seasons as the second assistant. He has worked with both the post players and the perimeter players, handled recruiting student-athletes, scouting upcoming opponents, and assisting in virtually all facets of the program. Scott helped guide the Rockets to the 2003 Mid-American Conference regular season championship, and the 2003 WNIT. Three of his players at UT were named to the All-Conference teams.

A graduate of the University of Toledo in 2001 with a Bachelor of Education in Physical Education and Recreation, He was twice a member of the Dean's List and is currently finishing up his master's degree in Recreation and Leisure at UT. Scott was a member of the Rockets' men's basketball team in 1997-98 and 1998-99, appearing in 26 games with two starts.

While an undergrad, he served as recreational supervisor for the Jewish Community Center in Toledo, coaching the Accelerated High School Basketball team, running multiple basketball leagues in the fall and directing basketball camps and clinics.

Scott attended perennial power Villa-Angela St. Joseph High School in Cleveland, where he was selected honorable mention All-Ohio, and was named team MVP.

Scott resides in Perrysburg, Ohio with his wife Colleen.

Jabir, entering his third season at UD, completes his staff after losing assistant Greg Williams to Williams' alma mater, Rice, where he is now women's basketball head coach.
