DAYTON, Ohio - The Atlantic 10 Conference named University of Dayton redshirt sophomore Florian DeCamps the rookie of the week for his performances against Richmond and Charlotte this past weekend.
UD's tallest player put his head to good use by heading in Antti Arst's free kick to give UD a 2-0 lead against Charlotte, whom the Flyers beat 4-2 Sunday. He assisted on Jeff Popella's goal that gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead against Richmond, whom the Flyers tied 2-2 Saturday.
He started the last six games of the year, moving from defender to forward. His move to the front helped key Dayton's four-game unbeaten streak to end the season.
DeCamps; from Cannes, France (Lycee Bristol); played for the AS Cannes U-18 team that won the Coupe de Cote d'Azur. AS Cannes produced 2006 World Cup Most Valuable Player Zinadine Zidane. Last year, DeCamps attended UD's sister institution, Espeme University; in Nice, France; but the school does not have soccer as an interscholastic sport. Including this season, he has three years of eligibility at Dayton.
