PITTSBURGH, PA - Despite four Flyers scoring in double figures Saturday night at A.J. Palumbo Center, the University of Dayton women's basketball team was defeated 83-69 by Atlantic 10 Conference rival Duquesne. The loss marks the end of Dayton's 16-game winning streak and the best start to a season in the program's history.

With the loss the Flyers fall to 16-3 overall and 2-1 in A-10 play, while the Dukes improved 10-8 overall and 1-2 in the league.

Freshman Kristin Daugherty led UD with 20 points, 18 of which came in the second half alone. Kendel Ross had 12, while Nikki Oakland and Kiki Lund added 11 apiece. Karah Cloxton chipped in with seven points and a team-high five assists.

Oakland also grabbed eight boards to go with three blocks, while Ross snatched seven rebounds of her own.

Duquesne led in several statistical categories out-shooting Dayton 46.7 percent to 35.7 percent from the field and out-rebounding UD 45-30.

Kristi Little led the Dukes with a game-high 26 points and seven assists as Jocelyn Chandler chipped in with 19 points and seven rebounds. Keri Pryor added 14 points and Samantha Pollino had 10.

After a barrage of baskets from both teams, Dayton held a 10-4 lead as four different Flyers scored in the first five minutes of play including back-to-back three pointers from Ross and Armstrong.

Dayton's advantage didn't last long though as Pryor tied it up 12-12 with 14:30 on the clock.

The Dukes would gain an edge behind a three from Pollino at 12:15 to move the score 17-16, but Lund got hot from three point range and sunk two consecutive shots from beyond the arc for a five point UD edge.

Duquesne battled back the remainder of the half to go on a 7-0 run to end the frame taking a 35-29 lead into the intermission.

Dayton was 6-of-10 from three point range to end the half, while the Dukes shot 44.1 percent from the field as Pollino scored in double figures with 10 in the first frame. The Dukes had a commanding lead in rebounds pulling down 23 to Dayton's 12 and points in the paint (18-6).

The second half began on the line for UD as the Dukes committed four fouls in a little over a minute.

But Dayton couldn't get it going as Little provided the offense for the Dukes scoring 11 points in a little over three minutes to put the team up 61-52 at 9:10.

The Flyers would bring it as close as 69-64 at 4:33, but could never overcome the Dukes eventually dropping the game 83-69.

UD returns home to host Charlotte at UD Arena on Tuesday, January 22. Tipoff is schedule for 7 p.m. ET in a game that can be followed with Gametracker, live audio (1610), and video streaming at www.DaytonFlyers.com.
