FLYERS BATTLE BACK TO BEAT CHICAGO STATE, 75-70

DAYTON, Ohio - Freshman Justine Raterman and junior Kendel Ross each contributed a double-double in Dayton's 75-70 victory over the Chicago State Cougars Friday night at UD Arena. Raterman led the Flyers with 16 points and 14 rebounds, marking her fifth double-double of the season, whlie Ross tallied her fourth scoring 13 points and grabbing 15 boards in the game.

With the win, Dayton moves to 7-4 overall and Chicago State falls to 4-6.

Kristin Daugherty, who finished with 15 points, came alive in the second half, scoring 12 of her 15 including a three-point field goal with 1:06 to play, to give Dayton a 72-69 lead. She then drained both free throws with 12.4 seconds left to ice it.

Scoring eight points in under two minutes in the second half, freshman De'Sarae Chambers came off the bench for the Flyers to contribute a career-high 14 points and two assists. On the defensive end, Casey Nance recorded four blocks to tie her career high while Ross was just one rebound shy of her all-time best, pulling down a total of 15 boards.

For Chicago State, Alyssa Waldon (19 points), Jasmin Dixon (16 points) and Courtney Waldon (15 points) led the offense.

Dayton led throughout the entire contest until a break away lay-up by Jael Pena with 7:27 to play, evened the score at 55.

The Flyers held a 41-35 lead over the Cougars at the half. Both squads shot 39 percent from the floor, with both teams converting 13-of-33 attempts. Chicago State drained five treys to Dayton's three, but UD was 12-of-14 from the free throw line. While the Cougars shot 42 percent (5-of-12) from behind the arc, they only made 40 percent of their free throws (4-of-10). Dayton also dominated on the boards in the first half, pulling in 28 to CSU's 17.

Raterman scored 12 points in the first half thanks in part to her 2-for-2 performance from three-point range. The Flyers owned their largest lead of the half - a 14-point advantage 25-11 - on a jumper by Daugherty. The Cougars chipped away at the lead and cut it to three with 35 seconds left in the half on a trey by Janay Dockery. Raterman answered the next trip down the floor with her second three-point field goal of the half to give the Flyers their six-point halftime lead.

Chicago State came back in the second frame, taking its first lead of the game after a lay-up by Janay Dockery.

The Flyers would regain the advantage behind Chambers who sparked the offense with back-to-back treys for a 69-66 edge. The Flyers would hold on, eventually pulling out the win 75-70.
